Our mission is to promote safe, compassionate, effective care by supporting the clinical effectiveness, education, training, professional development and research needs of all our users.

Come in and join the library - we serve ALL staff and students on placement.

The Library serves the staff and students of Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and East London Foundation Trust. 
New Homerton staff members, doctors and medical, nursing and midwifery students on placement are granted library membership automatically. If you are not in one of these groups, you can join by visiting the Newcomb Library enquiry desk.  Alternatively, you can fill in this form and return it to us by e-mail.

We offer a comfortable environment for work and study with a dedicated computer room.

Library staff are happy to assist with your information enquiries and library use.  We offer training courses ranging from the use of library resources to finding quality information on the internet and can provide literature searching support.

Monday, 11:00-17:30
Tuesday - Thursday, 09:00-19:00
Friday, 09:00-17:30

The Newcomb Learning Hub is available for Homerton staff and students with swipe card access. If you don’t have a swipe card they are available for loan from the library (£10 deposit required).


The Newcomb Library and Information Service is situated at the back of the hospital in the Education Centre. The nearest entrance is in Clifden Road.

Books of the Month

We are very excited to have won third prize in the Sally Hernando Innovations Awards for our submission, Understanding the person: insights into the patient experience.  

Maria Grant, the external judge, observed, This case study gave a clear account of the origins of the innovation, that of actively purchasing medically-themed graphis novels, memoirs and novels to educate staff on the lived experiences of health care conditions. Supporting statements indicate that staff are also using materials alongside other patient information to assist patients in understanding their condition. Key to this innovation is that books are not shelved separately but integrated into the main book stock enabling library users to encounter the breadth of the library collection in one place.
