Walkingtogether

‘Walkingtogether’ is a program of walks run by qualified health walk leaders/first aiders from different locations across the London Borough of Hackney.

Walking is an excellent activity to participate in, it’s a safe activity which helps to improve health as well as:

  • making you feel good
  • increases bone density
  • giving you more energy
  • reducing stress
  • helping to manage weight
  • helping you to sleep better
  • helping to reduce blood pressure.

The ‘walkingtogether’ program offers a range of walks which take place in parks with in the London Borough of Hackney. The group walks are a great way to socialise, meet new people, enjoy the park and get healthy.

The health walks are suitable for all ages and vary in difficulty. All walks are free led walks and are appropriate for those who are beginners.

The walks are led by a qualified health walks leaders and first aider, the free walks last up to 45 minutes to 60 minutes.

The ‘Walkingtogether’ programme also delivers Volunteer Walk Leaders training. If you are interested in leading walks for your borough please email surbjit.mahey@hackney.gov.uk.

The Hackney Diabetes centre also offer two walking groups:

Monday 10am - 11.30am
Wednesday 2pm - 3.30pm

Both walking groups are for mixed level fitness and the times include checking the blood glucose levels before and after the walk. Click here for details.

Avid walkers can also take advantage of information on the Ramblers website. They have over 700 free walks taking place all over the country - ranging from family, friendly strolls to hikes. For more info please visit www.ramblers.org.uk.
