Acute pain service

We deal with the management of acute pain. The patients we see are inpatients who have either had a surgical procedure or who are referred for advice on managing acute pain. We use up-to-date skills and knowledge for individual assessment and treatment.

Services available

We utilise many methods in acute pain control including:

patient controlled analgesia (pumps)
epidural infusions
local anaesthetic infusions
TENS
hot/cold therapyanalgesics.

Different pain control methods:

cold therapy heat therapy
deep breathing exercises
distraction therapy
massage for relaxation
basic pain guidelines for GPs.

Making an appointment

Patients are referred to us by any healthcare professional within the Trust. Patients can also self-refer. This service is for inpatients only.
