Acute pain service
We deal with the management of acute pain. The patients we see are inpatients who have either had a surgical procedure or who are referred for advice on managing acute pain. We use up-to-date skills and knowledge for individual assessment and treatment.
Services available
We utilise many methods in acute pain control including:
- patient controlled analgesia (pumps)
- epidural infusions
- local anaesthetic infusions
- TENS
- hot/cold therapyanalgesics.
Different pain control methods:
- cold therapy heat therapy
- deep breathing exercises
- distraction therapy
- massage for relaxation
- basic pain guidelines for GPs.
Making an appointment
Patients are referred to us by any healthcare professional within the Trust. Patients can also self-refer. This service is for inpatients only.
