Severe asthma
We provide an anti IgE clinic for severe allergic asthma. This is a highly specialised treatment for very specific patients identified by the allergy team.
Treatments offered

There are very few places in the country that can offer treatment for severe asthma in children. At Homerton we prescribe an anti-IgE treatment for children over the age of 12 years, which has the potential to drastically reduce symptoms. This treatment is offered through a series of injections on a regular basis.
In addition, we provide education and support for children admitted for acute asthma. This includes assisting with the understanding of the condition and its treatment; reviewing medication and assessing appropriate inhaler device(s). The services also develops age-appropriate self-management skills to allow children, with individual action plans, to effectively manage their condition in conjunction with their parents/guardians. This allows them to understand the correct adjustment of medication to prevent serious attacks, as well as when to seek help from their GP or attend A&E.
We also provide treatments for patients with less severe asthma.
