Continence
We offer a comprehensive service for women of all ages who suffer with bladder and bowel incontinence, prolapse of the genital organs and symptoms of constipation.
Services available
- urinary incontinence, including urinary frequency and urgency
- bowel urgency, incontinence and constipation
- pelvic organ prolapse, which may give women symptoms of dragging in the pelvic area, difficulty emptying bladder or bowel, general discomfort in the vaginal area.
Routine investigations
The first appointment includes a number of questions to establish the extent of the problem. An internal examination may be performed with full consent. There are a number of other tests that could be performed and are fully explained to you at the time of consultation.
Possible treatments involve pelvic floor exercises and bladder and bowel training, carried out by the physiotherapist and clinical nurse specialist either on an individual basis or in group settings. There are a number of different medications and in some cases surgery may provide the solution to your problem.
Making an appointment
Patients should be referred directly to this service by their GP. The service is called the pelvic floor dysfunction service and GPs can book this directly through their computer booking system. The clinics are held once a month on a Monday afternoon.
