Abdullahi and Ramon are two young people who are known to the Hackney Ark therapy team. They have a lot in common; they are both energetic, super funny, smart, adventure seekers and share a love for YouTube!. Abdullahi is about to study anthropology at university and dreams of being an inspirational speaker (you can often find him watching TED talks on YouTube).  Ramon dreams of becoming an actor  / comedian and has his own YouTube channel (he plans to be as big as KSI!). They both have Cerebral Palsy and walking can be challenging for them at times, but that has never stopped them from getting out there and seeking new adventures. So their physiotherapists set them a challenge to ‘plan a trip to the YouTube London office!’

The aim of the trip was for both Abdullahi and Ramon to build on their independence in the community, develop their planning skills to travel around London using a variety of transport modes and have lots of fun. Oh, also to make sure their physios wouldn’t get lost!

Going to the YouTube offices was so much fun, it was very enlightening to see the behind the scenes of how YouTube works. Using a public transport to go to a place I have never been before was very exciting as it was my partner (Ramon) and I that were in charge of making sure everyone got there safely.

What even made using a public transport more exciting was that I got to learn how to utilise a journey planner and a map as I don’t know to read a map. What I enjoyed most about the trip was when I got to interview the staff that took us on a tour - doing this interview made me see how much work goes into making a YouTube video and how much hardwork people put in to entertain not only people here in the UK, but also in other countries.

For me, nothing was really difficult as there were signs of where to go next when we were traveling. The advice I would give to young people with disabilities, who would like to travel around London is that always plan your journey ahead as this will help you know how to have a contingency plan if something goes wrong.

Going to the youtube office was amazing! I didn’t get to meet KSI [British YouTube personality and internet celebrity] but that’s ok! I loved how big the youtbue office is and seeing the green room. It was fun planning the trip with Dolapo. I use the bus to go to school by myself but I had not used journey planner or using maps before. I had never been to Kings Cross so it really fun to go to a new place. But we had to walk a long way, like  in Kings cross station, the tunnel was so long! I wish there were more seats in the station so people can rest if they are tired.  My advice to other people with disabilities is to plan your trip and look up the map before you start so you don’t get lost!
