Building work and ward changes around the hospital

We are constantly improving the service provided for our patients and staff and this sometimes means a slight disruption to normal service.

We aim to make improvements to our buildings with the least disruption so that service is able to continue as seamlessly as possible, but please bear with us while we improve our facilities for you.

Current projects:

X Ray
A new OPG (Orthopantomogram) has been installed in the X Ray department replacing the old unit. The new OPG is currently state of the art in such provision.

Staff toilets refurbishment
Refurbishment of the staff corridor toilets provide cleaner and more modern facilities is almost complete with only two remaining to be finished.

Staff lockers refurbishment
Refurbishment of the male and female locker rooms to provide much improved facilities for staff, including toilets and showers, have now been completed. The old nurses locker room opposite Chatters is currently near completion as well.

ARU Ward
ARU refurbishment is currently in progress and due for completion 5 December 2011. It is envisaged that we will deliver a similar model to Edith Cavell Ward.

Corridors and staircases
The corridors and staircases are currently being refreshed, including re-flooring, painting and wall protection. The work is taking place at night to avoid disruption to the normal operation of the hospital.

A&E toilets
The toilets within A&E have now been refurbished with new sanitary ware, IPS panels, flooring, lighting and re-decoration.

Main entrance
Works to the main entrance are now complete. The work included a new floor, reception and transport desks, heating and lighting and provision of updated refreshment and shop facilities. The new layout provides a more open and welcoming feel.

Future projects

Endoscopy
This project is for the relocation of the Endoscopy Unit into the space formally occupied by the Mental Health Trust. This solution will:

  • create separate clean and dirty scope rooms
  • establish a third procedure room sufficiently large enough to allow for the effective delivery of ERCP and EUS activity and include 9 No cubicles to match the capability of the procedure rooms
  • establish patient privacy corridors between each procedure room
  • build a dedicated interview/consent room.

The creation of a dedicated step-down facility within the Endoscopy Unit will then separate this facility from the Day Stay Unit. In addition, works to provide new staff toilets and shower facilities in the Day Stay Unit will enable the improvement of the changing facilities for patients in this area. This work is due to commence in February 2012.

Energy centre
This project is for the replacement of the Trust’s oil boilers to gas boilers to improve efficiency, reduce utility expenditure and improve the Trust’s carbon footprint. The works are currently out to tender with a proposed project commencement of May 2012.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused during the building phase of these projects.
