Keeping records confidential
Recording information about you

Your doctors and other health professionals caring for you keep records about your health and treatment. These are either written or held in a computer system, and include details about your address and next-of-kin, your hospital visits, the treatment and care you receive and results of investigations or tests. These records help to guide and administer the care that you receive.
Confidentiality
All NHS employees have a legal duty to keep your records confidential and at Homerton, confidentiality about your treatment is a top priority.
You may have received care from other organisations, both inside and outside the NHS. If so, we may share some information about you to work together for your benefit. We only pass on information to those with a genuine need for it.
The Data Protection Act allows you access to the information held about you. If you wish to see your medical records please ask the senior ward staff or your consultant. Remember though, your family will only be able to see your records if you give your permission.
Monitoring ethnicity
We serve a multicultural community and ethnicity is monitored because it helps us to understand how and why different groups suffer from different diseases. This means we can give you better care and treatment.
Your views
Every year the NHS undertakes surveys of patientsÂ’ views. You may be asked to help us understand how you feel about the services we provide. This will help us to continually improve the services we offer.
Information about ethinicity and views provided in surveys and questionaires are confidential. They will not affect the treatment you receive at the hospital.
