On the ward



Meal times

During your hospital stay we will provide you with three meals a day. We can also provide lunch box snacks if you have missed a meal.

We offer hot drinks after each meal. Please ask a nurse if you would like a hot drink between meals. If your meal is unsuitable, please let your nurse know so we can offer an alternative where possible.

Special diets

We offer special diets, vegetarian, Halal, Kosher and diabetic meals.

We also offer a dietitian service if your doctor or nurse feels that you need advice on your diet. Please see meals in the hospital for further information.

Flowers on the ward

You are welcome to have dried flowers on the ward but we do not allow fresh flowers or potted plants in the hospital as they can be hazardous to both patients and staff, especially if there is electrical equipment around. Flowers can also be a source of infection if left in stale water.

A smoke-free hospital

Smoking is not permitted within the hospital building, entrance ways or gardens. There are smoking shelters for those of you who feel that you must smoke. These are located outside the ward blocks towards the rear of the site.

If you are a smoker and would like help to stop smoking, please contact our smoking cessation adviser on 020 8510 7248. The ward staff will help you to do this.

Posting letters

Staff can post your stamped and addressed letters for you. Stamps are sold at the shop in the main entrance.

Other languages

The hospital employs a team of dvocates and interpreters who are available to help patients who do not speak English very well. Your ward nurse can put you in touch with them if necessary. See 'Health advocacy' for further information.

Refreshments for visitors

We do not offer refreshments for visitors to the ward. There are two cafes, a restaurant and a tea bar where your visitors can buy hot and cold drinks, snacks and meals. The ward staff will be able to direct you to these.

There is a selection of Halal and Kosher food available in Chatters. For hot Kosher food, two hours notice is required.

Medications

The medications given to you will be an important part of your care. They will be given to you at set times during the day.

Please use this opportunity to ask any questions you have about the medicines you have been prescribed.

A trolley service selling newspapers and confectionary visits each ward every morning.

Shopping There is a newsagent in the main entrance, open from 8am to 8pm every day. It sells newspapers, magazines, greetings cards, cold drinks, light snacks, sandwiches, confectionery and a small selection of toiletries. The shop also delivers newspapers and confectionery to wards.
