Patient library service
The community library service team from the Hackney Public Library Service provides a free patients library at Homerton.
A trolley service is provided every Tuesday from 5pm to all major adult wards, including RNRU.
Patients can choose from a selection of books including crime, romance and biographies. Books can be provided in both normal print and large print for people with visual impairments, as well some ethnic minority stock and magazines.
The team also has access to specific books from Hackney libraries for long-stay patients (subject to availability). If you would like a specific title, either speak to one of the library team on the ward round or contact the team on 020 8536 5238 homevisitlibrary.service@hackney.gov.uk or info@hackney.gov.uk.
Borrowing items is quick and simple. We just ask for your name, date of birth and ward. Once you have finished with a book, we would be grateful if you could leave them at the nurses station, return them to your nearest Hackney Library on your return home, or return them to the library team during the weekly trolley round.
Home library service
If you are due to leave hospital and will be recuperating at home for a period of time following an injury or illness, you might like to consider joining Hackneys Community Library Service which provides a free home library delivery service across the borough.
The service is aimed at people of any age who cannot easily access a library due to an accident, frailty, disability or caring responsibility. We provide a full range of library material on a monthly basis direct to your door.
Volunteers
If you would like to volunteer for the library service then please get in touch (same details as above).
