More information

A request from our Chief Nurse

Sheila Adam

Dear patient

The information we receive from you, our patients, is very important.
In September, you will receive a questionnaire through the post asking your views about
your stay. This questionnaire is part of the National Inpatient Survey carried out by the NHS every year.
We would be grateful if you would complete the questionnaire and send it back in the stamp addressed envelope supplied. The comments and suggestions you give in this survey will be used to improve our services to patients.

Below are some issues raised by patients last year – and our responses.

Patients said: “There aren’t enough hand gel dispensers available in wards and corridors.”
We responded: We have now installed additional dispensers in main public areas in the
hospital and put up additional signage outside wards.

Patients said: “We get disturbed by noise at night.”
We responded: We have introduced a pilot scheme on a number of wards providing
patients with Sleep well, walk safe packs complete with eye shades and ear plugs.

Patients said: “We are not offered a choice of food.”
We responded: Wards have a menu folder and a full range of choices from the menus are always available. We have worked with Medirest, who provide and cook the meals, so that you will always see the menu and are offered a choice.

Patients said: “We didn’t get enough help from staff to eat.”
We responded: We have increased our numbers of volunteers who help on the ward. We have relaunched our protected mealtime policy to make sure staff are free to help
at mealtimes and reduce any interruptions. All wards have blinds on the ward door to
remind staff it is mealtimes. Dietitians are visiting wards to see how we can further improve mealtimes.

Finally, please make sure you fill in the Friends and Family Test survey before you leave.
This is a valuable way for us to hear from you about how we can make our service better for all our patients.
As you can see, we listen to what you say and try to do something about it. Thank you, for your help with this.
