Working for us

Work experience

Due to high demand our work experience programme is closed for all new applications at this current time.

We are committed to supporting the education of people from within our local and surrounding communities.

We provide a structured work experience programme for local secondary school and college students between the age of 14 and 18 years, studying healthcare related GCSEs, BTECs, the new ‘Society, Health and Development Diploma’ and A-levels. The programme is designed to help students understand the wide variety of professions and types of career that are available in the NHS.

Our programme has been primarially designed and developed to meet the needs of school/college students in this age category that undertake work experience as part of their school work. The programme involves a brief induction and a fully supervised  one to two week(s) placement in one or various departments within the hospital, which provides an opportunity to shadow hospital staff and assist with basic duties.

However, we also provide extended placements, which are usually one or two days a week over several weeks, and mini/taster placements which may last just a day or a few days over a short period.

Can I apply?

You can only apply for our work experience programme if you live and go to school in Hackney , and are aged between 14 and 18 years.

Entry into our programme is extremely competitive, as we receive a large volume of requests for work experience.

Many of the schools and colleges in Hackney use Inspire, the education business partnership, as the principal source for work placements. We work closely with Inspire and receive a majority of our placement students through them. Visit the Inspire website for further information.
