Governor elections 2022 - influence how the Trust is run at the highest level?

If you believe you can then you are invited to stand for election as a Governor. Elections will be taking place over the summer to elect a total of 12 new Governors for Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Council of Governors. The elections are due to various circumstances including terms finishing, or staff moving on to another trust.  It’s an opportunity to make a difference.

To stand for election, you must be

  1. a Member of Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (all staff are automatically members if they are employed by the Trust or have a fixed term contract of at least 12 months no matter where they live)
  2. within one of the constituencies and class for which you wish to stand as a candidate (you live in City, Hackney, or you are a member of staff)

The election process has started, and a notice of election will have been sent out 27 July. All Members are eligible to stand as Governor. Trust staff are automatically members. The elections will be managed by UK Engage, an election services provider based in Stockport. They will be emailing all staff to ask if they want to stand as Governors. Look out for this information as in case it ends up caught by the spam filter.

Online voting for the Council of Governors election is now live and emails have been sent. Postal ballot papers will be available from week commencing 6 September. Voting closes 29 September at 5pm.

Becoming a Governor is a great opportunity to influence the future direction of our Trust. They have specific powers by law; for example they appoint the Chair of the Board of Directors, the non-executive Directors, and they must approve the appointment of the Chief Executive. They do not run the Trust and are not responsible for its day-to-day management; this is the responsibility of the Executive Directors on the Board.

If you believe you can contribute skills and experience, interest and enthusiasm, then please consider standing and visit the Governor Elections webpage where you will find more information.

The role of Governor is voluntary and it is not paid.
