Fair Recruitment Standards

At Homerton we are committed to ensuring all vacancies are recruited to in a fair, transparent and consistent way.

Our Fair Recruitment Standards were launched in 2020 to help eliminate bias and assure you that you can have full confience in our recruitment process. This commitment is part of steps being taken by the Trust, as part of its refreshed People Plan, to ensure the people who work for us represent the communities we serve at all levels of the organisation.

The Fair Recruitment Standards will lead to recruiting the most suitable candidate in relation to qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge, for each of our vacancies. It will also result in recruiting candidates who embody Homerton Trust values. Ultimately our commitment is to recruit the best possible people providing safe, compassionate and effective care to our communities with a transparent and open approach.

All our recruiting managers are required to sign up to the Fair Recruitment Standards.

Core values

At Homerton we are proud of the workplace culture we have created for our fantastic staff. Our workforce is multicultural and we are committed to providing a  service personal to each of our diverse range of patients. Our staff share our core values of Personal, Respect, Responsibility and Safe.

We are located in one of the most diverse areas of the world a short distance away from Central London to the east of the City. Hackney is a vibrant borough in London, with great diversity and opportunity which is reflected across the Trust. It is our diversity, and our sense of community, which makes Homerton such a special place to work. Read about our neighbourhood.

We offer a modern working environment with excellent development opportunities, support networks, social facilities and staff benefits. Our staff are integral to the success of the organisation in providing the highest possible quality of healthcare. We are committed to recruiting, retaining and rewarding the very best healthcare workers from across Hackney, London and beyond.

Equality and Diversity
We are committed to making sure that all staff feel valued whilst at work and are given equal opportunities. We try to accommodate differing needs ensuring our services and employment practices are fair, accessible and appropriate for the diverse communities we serve and the workforce we employ. You can read more on our Equality and diversity page.

Our multi-faith chaplaincy offers:

  • prayers for Muslim staff
  • carol services and regular communion for Christian staff
  • services for other religious events.

Equality, fair treatment and social inclusion lie at the heart of the government’s plans to modernise the NHS. The Equality Act 2010 supports these core principles and requires us (and all public authorities) to actively promote race equality as well as imposing a general duty to:

  • eliminate unlawful racial discrimination;
  • promote equality of opportunity; and
  • promote good race relations between people of different racial groups

We are a Disability Confident employer, and we run an internship programme called Project Search which supports young people with learning disabilities into paid employment.

Homerton is also committed to  supporting members of the armed forces and veterans

We believe that adhering to the principles expressed above and living up to the standards we have set ourselves has in part earned us the CQC rating for our hospital and for Homerton Hospital as ‘Outstanding’.

We also provide support for staff who would like to attend external learning courses, where appropriate and where possible, and for staff who would benefit from development opportunities such as mentoring, shadowing or secondments.

All staff receive a yearly Performance Development Review which will help to map out individual Personal Development Plans. These should be regularly reviewed throughout the year.

All courses are supported by the excellent Library and information service.
