Acute pain service
The patients we see are inpatients who have either had a surgical procedure or who are referred for advice on managing acute pain. We use up-to-date skills and knowledge for individual assessment and treatment. We work closely with the chronic pain service.
Services available
We utilise many methods in acute pain control including:
- patient controlled analgesia (pumps)
- epidural infusions
- local anaesthetic infusions
- TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) machine
Different pain control methods:
- cold therapy/ heat therapy
- deep breathing exercise
- distraction therapy
- massage for relaxation
- basic pain guidelines
Making an appointment
Patients are referred to us by any health care professional within the Trust. Patients can also self-refer. This service is for inpatients only.
