Referral route

GP to book One Stop Clinic before patient leaves practice.  

Possible procedures on typical USC (“2 ww ”) pathway

Clinical examination, mammogram, ultrasound scan, fine needle aspiration, biopsy  

Essential tests prior to referral

None  

Optional tests (concurrent to referral) or other useful information

Currently no female consultant breast surgeons at Homerton.  

Things the hospital or patient need to know

Contraindications for MRIs (e.g. pacemakers, aneurism clips etc)  

Please advise if patient requires an interpreter or transport or if they ha ve special needs.  

What the hospital tells the patient in letters

Please allow up to 3 hours for your appointment. You may have an ultrasound scan, mammogram  and/or biopsy during your visit. Some patients may need a breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan but, if so, we will discuss this with you first.
