Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy and Vascular Access Service

The Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) Service allows patients to receive intravenous antibiotic therapy in community or outpatient settings.

We aim to provide care that is safe and patient centred.

Exclusion/inclusion criteria

  • Adult patients only
  • No history of IVDU / Methadone maintenance
  • All patients will be assessed individually by the OPAT team regarding the appropriateness of OPAT using the OPAT Suitability Assessment Form
  • Appropriate antimicrobial therapy that can be delivered in the outpatient/community setting safely.

Referrals to the service are completed using the OPAT referral form  and emailed to Huh-tr.opatandvascularaccess@nhs.net 

Please refer 48hrs before discharge to enable a safe discharge.
