Speech and language therapy

Speech and language therapy provides assessment, advice and treatment to people with communication and swallowing difficulties. All of our speech and language therapists are professionally qualified clinicians and registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

Services available
Speech and language therapists work in the following teams:

  • Acute care
  • Graham Stroke Unit (GSU)
  • Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU)
  • RNRU Outreach Team
  • Therapy at Home Team
  • Homerton Transitional Neuro Rehabilitation Unit (HTNRU)
  • Adult Learning Disabilities Team (Learning Disabilities)

The patients we work with include those with:

  • acute medical illness
  • stroke
  • brain injury
  • progressive neurological conditions (e.g. multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and parkinson’s disease
  • dementia
  • learning disabilities
  • problems with swallowing or communication after surgery.

Making an appointment
The hospital team does not provide an outpatient service. If you are discharged from hospital and need further therapy or if you have not been a hospital patient you may be seen by therapists from one of the community teams
