Homerton Healthcare Excels in Cancer Care, Ranking Among the Best in the Country
Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has reached a major milestone in cancer care, with major achievements in key waiting-time targets for four consecutive months.
The latest figures for April show that:
- 81.4% of patients receive a diagnosis within 28 days of referral (meeting the national target).
- 100% of patients start treatment within 31 days of their diagnosis (exceeding the target).
- 85.7% of patients begin treatment within 62 days of referral, exceeding that target and placing Homerton fourth in the country for this measure.
This achievement is the result of a Trust-wide effort to improve cancer care systems, ensuring patients receive timely and safe treatment.
A Team Effort for Faster Care
Behind these outstanding results is a team of consultants, nurses, service managers, and administrative staff, all working together to streamline cancer pathways and put patients first.
“Our teams are committed to ensuring that patients get the diagnosis and treatment they need as quickly as possible,” said Charlotte Rowe, Cancer Performance and Patient Experience Manager.
A real-time tracking system using the Somerset Cancer Register (SCR) has been key in helping staff monitor patient progress daily, identify delays early, and take action immediately.
Working across NHS Trusts

The Trust is also working with the North East London Cancer Alliance to improve coordination for patients needing care across multiple NHS Trusts, further enhancing outcomes.
