World Autism Acceptance Week, March 28 - April 3

Pioneered by the National Autistic Society (NAS), World Autism Acceptance Week aims to draw attention to the 700,000 people living with autism in the UK both to educate those unaware of the condition, and to help make the world friendlier to those who are affected by it. Homerton Healthcare is playing its part.

This week we will provide updates about how Hackney Council is supporting an internship programme, Project SEARCH, and our role in this. We will also publish blogs from interns who discuss their experience of the scheme and mentors who play a crucial role in supporting interns into full time paid employment.

Project SEARCH is not new and during the last four years the Trust, steered by the leadership of head of Resourcing  Andy Williamson have been able to support numerous interns on their journey.

Read Alessandro's experience.

Having Autism made me feel like I don’t fit into a world that requires you to be smart, confident and to be able to build relationships straight away.

and hear the contribution he has made as a member of the Commercial Services team

he slowly came out of his shell and became more comfortable in our environment and participated fully in the tasks.
