Homerton Expands Same Day Emergency Care to Seven-Day Service
Homerton Healthcare is proud to announce a major investment in Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), improving the delivery of urgent care for our community. This enhanced service will now operate seven days a week, 12 hours per day. This will ensure patients receive timely treatment without having to be admitted to hospital.
SDEC provides rapid assessment and treatment for patients who need urgent care but can safely avoid an overnight stay. By redesigning patient pathways and expanding our facilities, we aim to cut waiting times, improve efficiency, and deliver care closer to home providing a better experience for people of City and Hackney and North East London.
Recent capital investment has increased the footprint of our SDEC unit, creating treatment spaces with monitoring capabilities. Alongside this, revenue funding has enabled us to recruit additional consultants, nurses, and specialist practitioners and clinical support workers strengthening our ability to manage higher acuity cases.
This development supports the NHS 10 Year Plan and North East London priorities, helping us deliver better outcomes for patients while reducing pressure on emergency departments. It will enable a 10-hour Single Point of Access (SPoA) for referrals from LAS, NHS 111, GPs, and community partners. With these improvements, we expect to support up to 11,000 additional patient encounters annually, ensuring faster, safer, and more effective care for our community.
Chief Executive and Place-based leader Bas Sadiq said:
