Bereavement support

Experiencing Bereavement

Grief and bereavement are personal, and everyone processes loss in their own unique way. Whether you're facing the loss of a loved one, or supporting someone else who is, there is no ‘right’ way to grieve. Feelings like sadness, numbness, anger, guilt, or even relief are all normal.

Bereavement can affect every aspect of life, including your physical health, emotions, relationships, and ability to cope with daily routines. It’s not uncommon to feel lost or isolated, especially in the early days following a death. While grief is a natural process, it can be comforting and reassuring to have someone to talk to, whether that’s a trained professional, a peer support group, or a compassionate service that understands what you're going through.

If you live in Hackney, there are a number of services that can offer support and guidance through bereavement:

St Joseph’s Hospice Bereavement Service

St Joseph’s Hospice provides free bereavement support to adults, young people, and children. Services include one-to-one counselling, family support, and group sessions.

Individuals can request a referral from their GP or other professionals, or contact St Joseph’s
