Feeding your baby and child
The Homerton Health Visiting Service is UNICEF Baby Friendly accredited.
Baby Friendly is a UNICEF initiative that sets standards for health professionals to ensure families get the right support and information on feeding and developing a close, loving relationship with their babies and children so the get the best possible healthy start in life.
Breastfeeding
The Baby Friendly Initiative aims to:
- support pregnant women to recognise the importance of breastfeeding and early relationships for the health and wellbeing of their baby
- enable mothers to continue breastfeeding for as long as they wish
- support mothers to make informed decisions regarding the introduction of food or fluids other than breastmilk
- support parents to have a close and loving relationship with their baby
All of our Health Visiting Team are trained to the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Standards and are here to provide you with help and support. Our new Infant Feeding Team are on hand to offer help and guidance to all mothers and their babies. The team will support and encourage you to achieve your feeding goals. There will be an Infant Feeding Specialist at each of our sessions to offer you tailored help and support. You may wish to attend for reassurance regarding positioning and attachment or support with more complex feeding needs.
