Building our new elective centre, with two new theatres and 10-bed ward
We are upgrading and expanding our surgical hub, using the existing Day Stay Unit site. The upgrade will include:
- two new surgical theatres
- a new 10-bed ward for surgical patients
- an interventional diagnostic hub for gynaecology to help us diagnose and treat faster
- a new gynaecology outpatient area
- a new gastrointestinal physiology room
- a urology diagnostic centre for faster and improved services for our urology patients
- improved facilities for our staff
The new elective centre will help us reduce waiting times for people in City and Hackney, and across North East London, so they can get the care they need, faster.
Louise Ashley, our Chief Executive, said “This is a really exciting investment for the local City and Hackney community and for residents across North East London, helping us significantly reduce waiting times for surgery and improve the patient experience.
"The new elective centre will allow us to do 2,500 additional operations a year, improve gynaecology outpatient and interventional diagnostic facilities, and provide better urology diagnostic facilities; helping people get the care they need, when they need it.”
Patients, visitors, and staff will see scaffolding being erected around the site and there may be some noise. to minimise this disruption the work areas will be segregated with vinyl façades. Access to patient areas won’t be affected during this first phase of construction. There will be a reduction in parking availability in the coming months, please use alternative travel to the hospital where possible.
This expansion is part of the NHS Elective Recovery Plan to build more surgical hubs to tackle growing waiting lists and will be a key step to achieving our Trust five-year strategic vision for everyone in City and Hackney to have access to outstanding care.
Early Pregnancy Service has moved
To enable the construction our Early Pregnancy Service has moved from the Women’s Health Centre on Tuke Ward to the Emergency Gynaecology Unit in the main hospital building.
