Update on New Referrals 10/12/2025

Please note: 

The waiting list is temporarily closed  due to staff vacancies. London Friend has now filled two vacancies for the chemsex service, and the required procedures to formalize the contracts are currently in progress.

During this time, this mailbox will not be regularly monitored .

Referrals

1. Self-Referrals

If you are concerned about your substance use and feel it is becoming unmanageable, please refer yourself to your local drug and alcohol service or attend Clifden Clinic, where a staff member can provide guidance and support.

If you are in crisis or feel that your mental health is deteriorating, please see the guidance below:

  • For urgent mental health care:
    Contact NHS 111, option 2 – they will connect you with services in your area.
  • If at significant risk to yourself or others:
    Call 999 or visit your nearest A&E immediately.
  • For general medical support:
    Please contact your GP.

3.  External Referrals - (From services such as Mental Health or Forensic teams)

We are temporarily closed to external referrals due to staff vacancies.
Please refer to your local drug and alcohol service in the meantime.

4.  Internal Referrals:

Homerton Referrals

For patients with moderate to severe chems use, please refer to the local drug and alcohol service.

If the patient's chems use is mild-moderate (and they are not under mental health or forensic services), please contact the High-Risk Sex/Chemsex Pathway Lead, Dr. Ana Revez at ana.revez@nhs.net.

Via HSHS / Patient Attending Our Clinic

Please discuss with Dr. Ana Revez (ana.revez@nhs.net).
If patients are stable, we may be able to offer up to 6 sessions of Motivational Interviewing/Low intensity, with the possibility of signposting or discussing suitability for referral to our HSHS Psychology team.

Information on Chemsex Service

This is part of a new exciting partnership between London Friend, Turning Point and NHS with a view to help people struggling with problematic chemsex. You can access the service by attending our Clifden Clinic or by emailing the team at huh-tr.chemsexsupport@nhs.net . Support is provided by a Recovery Worker and a Psychology Assistant/MSM Peer Mentor.  We can provide triage, assessment, advice, and treatment within the Sexual Health Service. We can provide full support for those living in City and Hackney. For people living outside the borough, we can provide some support and linking with relevant services.

Safer Injecting – Chemsex Packs

If you or people you know are engaging in Chemsex and slamming, we are offering free kits to keep you safer. Our Safer Injecting packs can be picked up free of charge at our main hub at the Clifden Centre. We are open Mondays-Saturdays.

Each pack contains:

1 x sharps bin

2 x measuring syringes (2ml)

4 x condoms

4 x sachets of lube

10 x syringes with needles (1ml)

10 x cookers/spoons

10 x pre-injection swabs – alcohol wipes

Naloxone

Naxalone can be provided by our Recovery Worker at Homerton Sexual Health Services with advice on appropriate use. Naloxone is a life-saving drug that prevents an overdose of heroin or other opiods and can be administered by anyone. You can collect Naxalone from the Clifden Centre on Tuesdays (9am-5pm) or Thursdays (12pm-7pm).
