Who are we?

We are a friendly and approachable team based in the Education Centre, passionate about delivering high-quality Clinical skills and simulation training. We strive to create a safe, supportive environment where healthcare professionals can learn, practise, and build confidence.

Simulation works because it allows staff to rehearse real-life clinical scenarios in a safe space—improving decision-making, teamwork, and ultimately patient safety.

What do we do?

In simulation, our mantra is simple- Preparation in simulation prevents hesitation in reality.”

We deliver realistic, multidisciplinary training in a safe environment—helping healthcare professionals practise clinical skills, improve teamwork, and build confidence without risk to patients.

Through structured debriefing and reflection, we turn experience into safer, better patient care.

Whether you are developing technical skills, managing emergencies, or enhancing team performance, our goal is simple—to build confidence, competence, and safer healthcare workers.

What we offer:

Please refer to the course catalogue for all courses that we offer.

We offer courses relevant to procedure sign offs, patient safety, staff training, communication courses suitable for all members of a Multidisciplinary team.

Clinical skills training

Clinical skills training includes a range of practical procedures such as chest drain insertion and suturing, supporting learners in achieving sign-offs and competencies for their portfolios. These sessions are suitable for a wide range of learners, from medical students to senior trainees, and are tailored to different levels of experience.

We deliver well-established courses such as R.I.P.S. and I.M.T. Procedural Days, providing structured opportunities to develop and demonstrate procedural competence.

You can get in touch with us if you would like to introduce additional procedural skills or require support with further competency sign-offs.

In-situ simulation

Ward managers, senior staff, or any healthcare professional can approach us with ideas to test specific systems or request simulation following an incident to enhance learning and improve preparedness.

Ward managers, senior staff, and all healthcare professionals are encouraged to approach us with ideas to test specific systems, expand their knowledge of acute emergency preparedness, or request simulation following an incident to support learning and improve preparedness.

Centre-Based Simulation Training

Centre-based simulation training includes courses delivered within the education centre, including P.S.I.R.F., R.I.P.S., S.E.T.S., S.C.O.P.E., and various other programmes and courses  which is run in our Education Department.

Our dedicated Simulation Suite is fully equipped with high-fidelity manikins, advanced audio-visual systems, and realistic clinical equipment to replicate real-life scenarios.

This environment enables staff to develop clinical competence, enhance teamwork and communication, and build confidence in managing both routine and emergency situations.

Community-based simulation

We provide community simulation training, covering key topics such as NEWS score awareness and the management of hypoglycaemia, to support early recognition and response to patient deterioration in community settings.

These sessions are tailored for teams working in GP practices, community clinics, and other primary care environments.

If you are interested in working with us to deliver or develop community simulation, please get in touch via this form.

The Science behind Simulation Learning:

learning process simulation

This model shows the Learning Pyramid (1946) by Edgar Dale: an American Educator who developed the cone of experience. It shows the progression of experience with the most concrete learning methods at the bottom. As this shows, simulation is a very active and beneficial method for acquiring skills.
