Youth Justice Nursing Service
The Youth Justice Nurse supports children aged 10-18, who are involved in the youth justice service.
The Youth Justice Nurse service provides a public health nursing perspective within the multi-agency youth justice service and contribute to the support of vulnerable children and young people across Hackney. With support from the integrated locality team and Youth Justice Service, the service promotes the health and wellbeing of young people involved in, or who may be at risk of entering the criminal justice system, to help them reach their full potential and not be disadvantaged through ill health or disability.
The Youth Justice Nurse works across the borough of Hackney, seeing children at the Youth Justice centre, at home, in school and college, and at local centres, providing holistic health assessments, focusing on physical and emotional health and neurodiversity. They offer specific intervention packages around physical health needs, such as sleeping, lifestyle, sexual health, life skills, therapeutic interventions for low mood, anxiety, problems with emotional regulation and managing stress. They sign post, refer and support to access other health services.
When a young person is leaving the Youth Justice Service a Health passport is needed to ensure continuity of care and support for their health and wellbeing.
